FCPX

So, I have been playing with final cut pro X… There are some really great thing I love about it. I bought a ripple training video series that has helped me to get up to speed quickly and understand where everything is. I am no pro editor, but do video work for friends and wedding videos for family. On my i7 MacBook pro, FCP is really fast, and I love the render in the background while I continue to work.

Here is a tip for those trying to match photos / video to beats in a song…. Make the song your main storyboard, and then add the other clips as sub clips. It will make your life much easier! Thanks goes to Zach Marshall for figuring that out and then telling me :)

aha moment…

Working on some projects today at work, I had an aha moment. We all get those, when things just click. Well, today a few things just clicked. And that was super nice.

We had 15 more downloads of our SimpleTVM app this weekend. Pretty fun to watch it grow slowly but steadily…

Redesign iPad App

I have been working a little on an iPhone / iPad app for work. We wanted to add some new functionality, and it is causing me some heartburn, because we didn’t set it up to function properly.

So I learned how to get SVN branching going, so that I can branch trunk, and work on this coding overhaul without it affecting the current state of the app. Really cool to understand SVN branch / merge…

I know I should eventually switch to git, like everyone else is, but until I can get my other tools switched, it will be SVN for now…

iPad 2…

Well, I went down to the Apple Store this morning with Anna and Brooklyn. We were down there to help my cousin Jason Call purchase his new MacBook Pro. Plus I wanted an excuse to go down and see the iPad 2 and get a feel for one. I really loved the feel of it. The flat back makes quite a big difference for me. The weight is the perfect balance, and it never once felt like it was going to fall out of my hand. Speed wise, I didn’t notice very much, except iBooks sure opened up the books twice as fast. I did like how fast most applications launched. Overall, it made me very excited. Really a great improvement…

Deploying iTunes via GPO

Here is a great tutorial for deploying iTunes to the computers on your network… At least for us, with 60 computers, and 25 iPhones, this makes is easier to upgrade…

Wow…

OK, so a lot has happened since I have been blogging… I had better start dumping the interesting things that are going on.

Our company has been developing some iPhone / iPad applications to help us better manage the growing amounts of data we consume. Infact just last month, we released a SimpleTVM caluclator to the App Store – Here is the Link: iTunes

I have really been picking up this Objective-C thing… Been fun to see things come together for the mobile devices. I really like making stuff that will help people do their jobs better. I am sure you will see me post more interesting things I find here in the very near future. I will dump some cool links so that I have somewhere I can refer back to them and be able to learn and grow faster.

More to come soon…

XBMC Rocks :)

Thought I would finally update the blog with some Tech stuff :) I finally got around to setting up an XBMC box. It actually has replaced my MythTV setup I have been running for so long. I have even setup a buildslave at the office, which was mentioned on the main xbmc.org webpage! So, I have been having a lot of fun with it. I love the Interface and how it works and really look forward to the progress that is being made on it.
